Cyclic swell–shrink behaviour of an expansive soil treated with a sulfonated oil

نویسندگان

چکیده

The effects of a sulfonated oil (SO) stabiliser on the swell–shrink properties an expansive soil were investigated through cyclic wetting–drying tests. action led to reconstruction microstructure by inducing clay particle aggregation. Accordingly, greater number applied cycles, lower potential up fourth cycle, beyond which swelling and shrinkage strains attained elastic equilibrium. At any given tendency for reduction was in favour SO concentration 0·75%, excess molecules self-associated form aggregates, thereby acting as ‘lubricant’ rather than clay-stabilising agent. As result treatment, accumulated axial strain progressively transitioned towards desirable, ‘neutral’ state, with 0·75% exhibiting highest resistance against wetting–drying. For concentration, equalised void ratio–moisture content curves wetting drying followed same S-shaped path, further corroborating that processes, achieving equilibrium, become reversible. liquid limits indicated progressive transition aggregated fabric, identified optimum concentration.

A laboratory Study on Reinforced Expansive Soil with Granular Pile Anchors

Granular Pile Anchor (GPA) considers one of the solution foundation techniques, designed to mitigate the lifting of the sole resulting from expansive soils. This study work is to investigate the uplift movement response of (GPA) in expansive soil. The laboratory tests have been performed on an experimental. The effects of several parameters, such as length (L) of (GPA) and diameter (D), the thi...

Influence of Soil-industrial Effluents Interaction on Subgrade Strength of an Expansive Soil-a Comparative Study

The rapid growth in population and industrialization cause generation of large quantities of effluents. The bulk effluents generated from industrial activities are discharged either treated or untreated over the soil leading to changes in soil properties causing improvement or degradation of engineering behaviour of soil. If there is an improvement in engineering behaviour of soil, there is a v...

an investigation of swell-shrink behavior of an expansive soil

expansive soils show swelling and shrinkage behavior when subjected to cyclic wetting and drying. the variation in water content influence the volume change in this kind of soil. these volume changes can cause ground movement which may result in damage to the buildings and structures. to study the behavior, a number of successive wetting-drying cycles were conducted on a statically compacted ex...

Treatment of expansive soils with quality saline pore water by cyclic drying and wetting

Expansive soils can be found in many parts of the world particularly in arid and semi-arid regions. These soilspose a significant hazard to civil engineering structures due to its high swelling and shrinkage potential. This paperpresents the results of an experimental program developed to investigate the effect of cyclic drying and wetting on theswelling potential of expansive soils with variou...
